Under Authority
Focus: exodus1/17>20
“The midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children… Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty.”
Learn: The midwives were under the earthly authority of the Pharaoh. However they were under the spiritual authority of God. Spiritual authority always trumps earthly authority. When forced to choose obedience and loyalty, they chose God over man. As a result God “dealt well” with them, and because of that everyone was blessed. God always blesses and rewards obedience.
Internalize: We all have moments when we must choose between the desires of the king of this world, or the desires of the King of Heaven. When moments of choice come choosing the desires of the King of heaven always produce blessings- for you and for others. The blessings may be immediate and earthly, or the may be eternal and spiritual, but either way they will be real. God will not be indebted to anyone. He will always reward obedience. Even in the face of great personal loss and punishment from the Pharaoh, the midwives were obedient. Their reward was that the entire Hebrew nation was blessed because of them and they themselves hd babies- when prior to that they had none! I must be faithful to God when the desires of the world are in conflict with God’s desires. I must realize that my own blessings and the blessings of others is at stake. I don’t want to disqualify myself form any of God’s blessings. I don’t want to be responsible for others missing God’s blessings. I must choose the desires of the King of Heaven- not just for the blessings but because that is the way I show I trust and love God.
Prayer: God, please help me choose Your desires over my own. Please bless me and others. Help me to love You more. Amen
